The
Altar Guild is the ministry of preparing and
maintaining the vessels and vestments used at
the altar. Members are trained
and assigned to a rotating team that is responsible
for the services during a given week. Elaine
LaVallee and Betty
Wood are in charge of this ministry.
The team schedule is listed on our Matrix schedule.

There are three or four members on each of our Altar
Guild teams. We currently have five teams, and
each one has a Team Leader. Teams are assigned
two Sundays in a row, and are responsible for any extra
services (i.e. weddings, funerals, holidays) which
occur during the two-week period (Sunday through Saturday).
The Team Leader is responsible for:
- Calling the team members by Thursday of the assigned
weeks, and scheduling a set up time for the Sunday
services.
- Making sure someone sets up and cleans up for each
of the services.
- Launders the Rector's alb after the Sunday services
and returns it to the church by the following Saturday.
- Checks for flower sign-ups and calls to remind
the flower donor that the arrangement should be on
the altar before the 7:30 AM service.
The
Team Members are responsible for:
- Calling the team leader if he/she forgets
to call you.
- Arranging for a substitute when you're unable to
come at your scheduled time. When this happens,
you should call each of your team members with the
date(s) you'll be gone and the name of your substitute.
- Going to the church at the arranged time.
- Following the Altar Guild directions posted on
the cupboard in the Sacristy.
- Checking the Sunday Bulletin for baptisms, etc.,
so that the necessary supplies are in place.
- Putting up the hymn numbers on the walls of the
sanctuary.
- Filling the candles with oil and checking the wick
on the candle lighter.
- Dusting the pews, evenly distributing the books,
and removing any old bulletins or other objects left
in the pews.
- Notifying your team leader if any of the supplies
seem low.
