All Saints, Carmel Campgrounds

A River Runs Through It

Our urban campers contemplate
the best method of forging the
Big Sur river.  May 2003

Want to spend a couple of nights around a warm Big Sur campfire, relaxing and singing under the stars? How about a Saturday full of children's laughter from innertubing on the river, adults smiling after a spectacular hike to the ocean and all ages gathering for a delicious community dinner as the day's light slips into a special evening light? If this appeals to you and your family, please join us for ECA's annual camping weekend May 20-22.

We have a beautiful oak tree studded site reserved just for us on the Big Sur River, 20 miles south of Carmel. Tent camping is best here, but there is an area designated for small R.V.s as well. There are flush toilets, but no showers. If you bring your dog, you must keep it on a leash at all times. This campsite is owned by All Saints Episcopal Church in Carmel and they charge $11 per person, per night. It's worth every penny!

Driving Directions (map)

Location: 24.5 miles south of the Ocean Rd. stoplight in Carmel, on Hwy. 1. Look for Big Sur Campgrounds and Santa Lucia Chapel signs and take a right towards the Big Sur Health Center. If you reach the Riverside Campground and the Chevron Station, turn around, you have gone too far!

We have the All Saints, Carmel-owned campground (Santa Lucia Chapel) on the Big Sur River all to ourselves. It is located 24 miles south of Carmel near Pfeiffer and Molera state parks. There are flush toilets, but no showers.

For you last minute procrastinators and shower lovers, some alternatives to tent camping or RVing at All Saints are...

  • Big Sur River Inn - The Inn is located right next door (within walking distance) of our camp. Check out their website or call them at 800 548-3610.
  • Big Sur Lodge - They're located a short driving distance away.  The lodge is in Big Sur State Park, and your room charge covers your entrance fee into the state park.  Their phone number is 800 424-4787.
  • Big Sur Campground and Cabins - This is a AAA approved facility a short drive away.  This place does have showers and cabins.  They don't have a website, but their number is 831 667-2322.
