December '99 Vestry
Meeting
December 14, 1999
Attendees: Kimberly Axtell, Doug Dunham, Kathy Dunham, Susie Ferguson,
Terry Francis, Terry Gooding, Ron Howie, Natalie Mena, Brenda McHenry ,Ed
Mueller, Russ Petruzzelli, Nolan Redman, Roberta Verderico, Joan Wagner,
Warren Willard.
No Absences
A motion was made to approve the minutes as corrected. The motion was
carried.
Financial Report
The financial report was approved as presented.
The proposed budget presented by Nolan was moved, seconded and approved to
be presented at the annual meeting.
Investment Report:
The Merriman Managed Account was sold and moved to Strategic Capital
Management.
Two funds were purchased at Merill Lynch; Aim Balanced and Alliance Growth.
Nolan Redman proposed use of the Shadinger Memorial Fund monies, up to 60K,
for a new organ. A discussion was held. A fund raising for an organ fund will
still be needed.
The vestry members were challenged to come up with other proposals for an
appropriate memorial.
Junior Warden Report
A proposed Joint Venture Budget was presented. Joint venture is in good
shape. The survey of space utilization was performed and indicated that space
was 100% utilized during the 10AM time frame on Sunday mornings. This
strategic issue needs to go to the council and vestry and a decision needs to
be at this level Nolan Redman proposes that this topic be discussed in the
January vestry meeting.
Earthquake Insurance will cost an additional $3400 per year. Is it vestry’s
intent to purchase this insurance. Coverage is unknown at this moment. A
motion was made and seconded to purchase earthquake insurance.
This motion was carried.
Committee Reports:
Fellowship: Christmas Party and New Years Eve Party are coming
up.
Christian Education: Sunday School program is going well. The
kids are there.
Outreach: A motion was made and seconded that ECA join UCC and
Holy Spirit in a three way partnership to support a refugee family in San
Jose. Cost is approximately 4K. Outreach program will be able to start this
program with 2K from the 1999 budget. This motion was carried.
Seventy six families have pledged. We are about 100 pledge families every
year.
A nominating committee will need to be formed to acquire four members.
Belinda has volunteered for next year. The annual meeting will be held either
the 9th or 16th of January . Two members are needed for
the joint venture board for next year.
Vestry Retreat:
Friday night dinner, in Willow Glen, to be held for the vestry members.
Old and new members will be attending.
Annual meeting will be held on Jan 16th. Vestry meeting will be
held on the 16th instead of Jan 11th.
Scrip sales have been altered due to stores canceling the use of scrip.
Membership sign ups have been weak.
Building and Ground maintenance needs to be upgraded. Facilities
maintenance needs to be brought up to the joint venture board. We need to hire
a gardener. A proposal needs to be presented to the Joint Venture board which
will be held next February.
