Vestry Minutes: June 10, 2004


Those in attendance: Ken McCormick, Terry Root, Pat Rimroth, Jack Jackman, Kathy Dunham, Kim Petruzzelli, Alex Dykes, Stephen Mills, Elizabeth Ward, John Mills, Ellen Lukanc, Len Whitlock, Joan Wagner, Betty Consorte, Mary McPherson and Sandra Mueller. The meeting began at 19:08 with Stephen's opening pray for David Byers in hospital.

Finance Update:

Len Whitlock reported the Shadinger Fund has not been performing well lately. Len proposed a committee: Len Whitlock and George Romer be set up to consider a change in money managers and report back to vestry with a new strategy next month.

Finance Committee Report:

Elizabeth Ward drafted a letter requesting refund of reported extra money in the Joint Venture Capitol Reserve Fund. Motion was made/seconded to send the letter to Joint Venture.

Capitol Improvement Committee:

Betty Consorte asked if the Vestry to agree to re-carpet, update lighting and paint the church. Two comparable bids of about $21,580 are being considered. The Vestry voted for and seconded this motion. The new carpeting is plush and will blend with pew and kneeler upholstery. There will be an article in both the Shape and Kalos explaining the refurbishment to be done during the summer months.

Finance Report:

Pat Rimroth reported plate offering is up; pledge offering is down. Scrip income has been added to the revenue line. We are on track for a projected deficit which includes our total 2003-4 Fair Share. Insurance went up: the Diocese changed insurance companies. Side note: Neither the Lobster dinner monies nor the Cursillo Fund money has been entered into the Finance Report this month.

Rector's Report:

Both the Lay and Clergy Conferences were successful. UCC has an interim minister. Paul Smith-Telfer who is a retired UCC minister will work on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Stephen will make a design proposal to change the church sign out front so that it is more visible.

Cursillo:

Kathy Dunham said 16 ECAers are on the next Cursillo team (September 30) Kathy also reported that ECA has established an ongoing Cursillo fund that will be used for expenses associated with working, sponsoring or attending a Cursillo weekend.

Worship Report:

Kim Petruzzelli reported that Folk Sundays will fall on July 4th and August 1st. October 1st will be Folk Sunday because John Leslie will be on vacation. He will be away July 25th and August 1st. September 12 will be a Folk Sunday and Kick Off Day for Sunday School. Fellowship Report: John Mills is setting up a get together at the S.J. Giants on July 2nd. Ninety people have signed up for Lobster Dinner June 19th. Ken McCormick will set up fellowship gatherings at Concerts in Graystone Park. Thursdays from 6-8 p.m.

Administration:

Jack Jackman reported, office manager, Lorraine Zeller splits her time for ECA, UCC & Joint Venture as 1/3, 1/3, 1/3. ECA pays half her salary. She has written a proposal to establish an administrative team of: the office manager, 2 members of ECA, 2 members of AVUCC, a Joint Venture representative, and the pastor of each congregation and that they meet regularly at agreed intervals. Purpose of the team is to help ensure mission/ministry of the church office is fulfilled in a balanced and fair way.

Shape:

Alex Dykes will remain Shape editor after he leaves the Vestry.

Church School Report:

Ellen Lukanc reported that Vacation Bible School will be July 5 - 8, Sports Camp August 2 - 6. June 11 will be both the End of the Year Party for the Sr. High and the End of the Year Party for the Jr. High. Leslie Rousseau will be the new Break Out Coordinator. Outreach: Lawrence Robles sent a questionaire from Santa Maria Urban Mission.

Fellowship:

Ken McCormick reported the ECA Luau will be September 18th He called for auction donations and noted that decorations, a band, and the caterers have been acquired. The meeting ended with a closing prayer at 20:56.
