Vestry Meeting:  June 8, 1999

Attendees: Kimberly Axtell, Doug Dunham , Kathy Dunham, Susie Ferguson, Terry Gooding, Ron Howie, Brenda McHenry, Ed Mueller, Russ Petruzzelli, Nolan Redman, Joan Wagner, Warren Willard,

Absent: Terry Francis, Natalie Mena, Roberta Verderico, Maryke Williams

Old Business:

Minutes of the May 11, 1999 were read and approved as corrected.

Shape deadline moved to June 15th for this month only.

Financial Report:  All bills are paid. Cash position is secure with $24,395.55. No Red Flags reported.  The Vestry approved this report.

Vestry Meeting Information Focus:  Focus on Youth  A youth committee is being formed. Ten people are on this committee. Kyle and Leanna will be on the committee. Committee to meet on June 29 and in July. A full day retreat is planned. Committee will meet once a month. Committee to address the computer for youth.

Financial Report: Nolan Redmond - No Red Flags reported. ECA is doing very well financially. The Vestry approved this report.

Investment Committee Report: Market went down mid-May and is expected to stay down until August. Account down 1K from last month as check was given to Dori Torrey.   The committee needs to have one member replaced. A motion was made to accept Len Whitlock as a member of the investment committee. This motion was accepted.

Joint Venture Report:  A vice president has been designated by UCC. Three bids for the termite infestation are being reviewed. A limit of 10K has been assigned for the termite reparations. All wood decks need to be removed and treatment for subterranean termites. Monte has come up with a glass enclosure outside of the office. This depends on the bid for the project. This enclosure could be used as a classroom. Nextel wishes to put a repeater on the roof and pay rent to the church. This would amount to $15,000 per year. This project is under consideration. All construction will be performed to code.   Suzanne Martinez, a registered nurse, filled the Joint Venture secretary position. She will work MWF 9-1. The Rector will give Kimberly the directory information by next week.

Rectory Report: No report

Worship Committee Report:  Kathy Dunham has ordered the lay reader robes. Eight robes will be here in 3 weeks.  Quality is beautiful.

Outreach:  ECA cooked for 15 people for Transfiguration Church.  How to get people involved. Use Christian Education time for presentation of Outreach programs.  Wait until September, when new semester is involved. Use of ministry faire. Vestry members to collect ideas concerning outreach from church parish and

Senior Warden Report:  A screening committee consisting of Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Outreach chairman, Charitable Contribution Chairman needs to be formed and decide on criteria for judging requests. We have past history to use.

Communications: No report

Charitable contributions: No report

Stewardship: No report  A family event has been planned for the stewardship event. We need to look ahead for the calendar.

Inreach Pastoral Care:

Good Sam ministry - Suzy met with Jenny Hoyt. To provide meals to families in times of bereavement, emergency, and convalescence. Requests for needs are made through our rector or chairman of the ministry. Areas needing development: Recruitment and updating Good Sams list- Ministry Faire Quarterly Cook Day Teams – Volunteers and Mentoring

Fellowship: June - The camping weekend has 21 kids and 25 adults attending this weekend.  The Maine Event has 72 attending. July: Steak and Stein (Beer Tasting? ) scheduled for mid July for Adults. July 17.  Dinner groups; 24 family groups for Adult  21 family groups for Intergenerational groups – picnics.  Those people who are missing will be contacted to join – missing persons group.

Christian Education:  A survey has been generated and will go out this week to the congregations. Every one in the local parish will receive the Adult Ed. Questionnaire. This survey is to evaluate how things have gone on to now.  A discussion was held concerning the return to "Tuesday School" for children of the parish. It seems that the existing Christian Ed program is working for ECA. UCC participation is low.

Nolan’s Report: Nolan returns from holiday on Sept. 5. Wednesday night bible study will start on September 8th.  Continuing Ed: June 21- 25th, and July 11 – 17th. Vestry Meetings cancelled for July and August.   Vestry agrees to have the investment committee decide on getting back into the market.  First Sunday in August, Nolan will be here.
