Vestry Meeting: June 13, 2000
Attendees:
Belinda Byerly-Robins, Alex Dershimer, Terry Gooding, Susie Ferguson,
Brenda McHenry, Natalie Mena, Ed Mueller, Russ Petruzzelli, Ginger Redman,
Nolan Redman, Roberta Verderico, Joan Wagner, Warren Willard.
Absent: Beverley Deveaux
The May 9, 2000 vestry meeting minutes were read. A motion was made to
approve the minutes as read by Brenda Mc Henry. Belinda Byerly-Robins seconded
the motion and the motion was approved.
The Financial Report was not available for June’s vestry meeting. A
verbal report was given by Ed Mueller on behalf of Maryke Williams. ECA is in
good financial shape.
Old Business:
The Field Education program requires a Field Education Committee. Dori
Torrey discussed committee requirements with the vestry. There is no set
number of members. A chairman is required to write an evaluation on behalf of
the congregation. There will be a ‘Training Day’ in the fall/spring held
at the seminary for the committee members.
This committee will act as a sounding board (cheerleader role) for the F.E.
Student. Forms are available for sermon evaluation. The student draws up a
contract for his/her learning experience and sets own personal goals. The
vestry will have three months to form the F.E. committee to be ready in the
fall. Committee meetings are usually held once a month.
The vestry should think about people who would be good candidates for a
committee that would be a representation of the ECA congregation. Committee
will represent both early/late services, old, young. Seven members is a good
number.
New Business:
- Dori Torrey will be available throughout the summer. She will be answering
phone messages at the church on behalf of Nolan.
- Nolan found the back deck of the rectory infested with subterranean
termites. The Junior Warden needs to evaluate this issue. The rectory will
require a termite inspection. Nolan will not replace any more of the deck
until evaluation of the issue is completed.
- Joint Venture is advertising for a Youth Leader. This will be a paid
position. The Christian Ed. 10am hour will be used for youth to come
together. Social activities will be held at other times. There was a
suggestion that ECA, UCC, Holy Spirit and Saint Anthony meet together for
social activities to obtain ‘critical mass’.
Ministries Reports
Senior Warden: Brenda McHenry
Guadalupe Mission meets at Trinity (Downtown San Jose). This mission serves
the Mexican community. This is a growing congregation, however it is a poor
one. ECA supports this Mission.
Jr. Wardens: Belinda and Russ
- The UCC general meeting will be held on June 18th. Sandy hopes
to obtain consensus on the new building project.
- Four awnings have been purchased with side curtains.
- Two external heaters have been purchased.
- Committee has been formed to look for a youth director.
Christian Education: Susie Ferguson

Three Akue boys have been baptized. The Kabeja refugee family has baptized
two girls. Warren presented a report on the refugee status.

The first Alpha course has completed. Twelve ECA people went through this
program.
The celebration dinner will be held in September. In the fall there will be
an attempt to hold more than one session in homes. This is a ten week course
held in a discussion group atmosphere.
The first family fun day was held. Eighty (80) people came. Two events have
been planned per year. These are FREE. The next event will be held October 8,
2000 right after the late church service.
