May 2000 Vestry Minutes

Vestry Meeting: May 9, 2000

Attendees:

Belinda Byerly-Robins, Alex Dershimer, Beverley Deveaux, Terry Gooding, Susie Ferguson, Brenda McHenry, Natalie Mena, Ed Mueller, Russ Petruzzelli, Ginger Redman, Nolan Redman, Joan Wagner, Warren Willard.

Absent: Roberta Verderico

 

The April 11, 2000 vestry meeting minutes were read. A motion was made to approve the minutes as read by Brenda McHenry. Beverley Deveaux seconded the motion and the motion was approved.

 

The Financial Report was read. The Episcopal Church in Almaden has a balanced budget.

A motion was made to approve the financial report as read by Ed Mueller. Alex Dershimer seconded the motion and the motion was approved.

Old Business:

The next sexual ethics workshop will be held in the fall. Nolan encouraged all Vestry members were to attend.

New Business:

  1. Ken Wratten presented a Field Education Proposal to the vestry. This will entail approximately 8hrs/ week. Ken proposes to study ECA and the presentation/implementation of our mission statement. The cost of a FE student is $800, which provides for reimbursement of travel and CDSP expenses.
  2. Ed Mueller made a motion to accept Ken as a FE student at ECA and expend monies from the Shadinger Fund for this year. This motion was seconded by Alex Dershimer and approved by the vestry.
  3. A Field Education committee will be needed to review learning contract. A list of goals and tasks to build knowledge with quantifiable results will be required.
  4. The Rectory deck is crumbling. Boards have dry- rotted and need to be replaced. Nolan would like to work on this project this summer.
  5. A motion was made by Russ Petruzzelli to provide up to $250/ month for housekeeping services for the rectory. These monies would come out of the budget allotted for rectory maintenance. The motion was seconded by Alex Dershimer and approved by the vestry.
  6. Nolan reported on the status of his Continuing Education Project. He has created a website to be linked to the ECA site. Web address is The-Boundary.org.

 

Ministries Reports

Senior Warden: Brenda McHenry

  1. The Vestry Retreat goals were summarized and handed out to the Vestry.
  2. All Vestry members will receive a copy of the UCC Kalos. All UCC council members will receive a copy of the ECA Shape. Nolan and Julianne will incorporate the databases.

Jr. Wardens: Belinda and Russ

  1. The building presentations with financial Performa were reviewed.
  2. A Home schooling group will be using the facility twice a week.
  3. Belinda will check in with UCC council moderator re: status of site improvements.
  4. Russ Petruzzelli moved that ECA vestry recommend to the JV board to replace the front patio when funds become available. We are greatly concerned about safety issues. Brenda Mc Henry seconded this motion and it was approved.

Christian Education: Susie Ferguson

Alpha is going great.

In reach/ Charitable Contributions: Terry Gooding

Brenda McHenry, Terry Gooding and Ed Mueller presented the Charitable Gift Committee report. The committee recommended that 8% of the value of the Shadinger Account be available for gifting. Ed moved that the vestry accept the proposal as outlined. This motion was seconded by Alex Dershimer and was approved by the Vestry.

Outreach: Warren, Roberta, and Beverley

Warren reported that ECA cooked for 18 people who were staying at the Church of Transfiguration last Friday. The Akui family is doing well. Two family members are interested in baptism at ECA.

Worship: Ginger Redman

Healing services will be available to other church members.

 

Youth: Alex Dershimer

 

Communications: Belinda, Russ

Growth:

Family Fun Day will be held on June 3rd.

Growth Sunday – June 11th.

Bring a friend to Sunday School.
