Vestry Minutes: May 11, 2004
The meeting was called to order with prayer at 7.05 p.m.
Members present: Susie Ferguson, Jack Jackman, Allan Jones, Ellen Lukanc,
Mary McPherson, Ken McCormick, Jon Mills, Stephen Mills, Kim Petruzzelli, Pat
Rimroth, Terry Root, and Elizabeth Ward.
Rector's Comments: Stephen, Ellie Mills and Katie McCormick attended
New Beginnings. There were a total of 40 junior high youth, 8 of whom were
from ECA; ECA had more youth attend than any other church. Stephen recently
spent a week in Florida to attend a continuing education seminar regarding the
church finances. The church pension fund has $4 billion more than what was
originally believed. Many of those attending were 55 years and older, and
there was significant discussion regarding the integration of vacation,
health, finances, religion and spiritual growth. There are four youth enrolled
in confirmation class. An interim bishop is expected to be hired by September
2004. On May 22nd the Diocese, through the Standing Committee, is holding a
conference for lay members to discuss the Diocese's finances, and to discuss
the Diocese's future. On May 22-24, a clergy conference will be held to
discuss the same issues. Lorraine Zeller has requested that an administrative
committee be formed to provide support, guidance and advocacy for the
administrator; Stephen, Jack and Allan will follow-up with Lorraine to further
discuss her request. Finally, Stephen presented a yearly calendar and event
planning guidelines for committees to consider using.
Committee Reports:
Fellowship: Kim reported that the birthday boys did a superb job at
the May 9th BBQ. Contributions totaled $158, and expenses totaled $136. There
will be additional BBQs the second Sunday of each month throughout the summer.
Susie reported that Lobster Fest committee members have raised the question of
whether the Lobster Fest should be a fundraiser. Most Vestry members felt that
the focus should be fellowship since there will be a large fundraising event
in September. The Tacky Luncheon was a big success, and was the subject of a
full-page article in the Almaden Resident. There will be a Worship Committee
meeting on June 4th; give Susie any comments that you may have. AVUCC is going
to have an interim pastor beginning June 6th, who will be working 80%.
Finally, donations are being accepted for the Luau; Allan will pick them up
and take them to Jackie and Len Whitlock's home for storage. Ticket sales will
begin in June, and everyone needs to solicit donations.
Finance: Pat reported that cash flow is positive at this time.
Contributions totaled approximately $19,267 for April. Expenses were
relatively normal, expect for prepayment of pension and insurance expenses.
Senior Warden Report: Ken reminded Vestry that the ECA 11 a.m.
service will be moved back to 10.30 a.m. during the summer, beginning June
5th. The time change will be announced in the Shape and in weekly bulletins.
There also was discussion with regard to the source of funds that JV plans to
use for recarpeting and repainting the Church.
The meeting was closed with prayer at 9.05 p.m.
Respectively submitted,
