Investment Report:

A recommendation was made to move the Merriman Managed Account to Strategic Capital Management.  A proposal for financing the improvements for the Joint Venture using the Shadinger Endowment fund was made by Ed Mueller indicating that the account would yield 8% and good works monies would be available.  A statement concerning the Shadinger monies should be made at the annual meeting.

The organ cost may range between 40 – 70K. Monies will be raised from the individuals of the two churches.  A motion was made to move the William Schaefer memorial fund of $5,052.74, to the Organ Fund. The motion died for lack of a second.  Discussion was held and a decision was made to table this motion until the decision concerning which organ to purchase.

Junior Warden Report

The Joint Venture Improvement project is slowing down. The patio is not finished. 55% of the cost has been paid out.  A proposed Joint Venture Budget was presented. Joint venture is in good shape. Reserve funds are above the 15% reserve required and a discussion was held on returning $12,864 to the congregations.  UCC is concerned about expansion monies due to size of their congregation.  The vestry members need to be aware of UCC’s concerns with financing the building fund.

Committee Reports:

Fellowship:  Christmas Party and New Years Eve Party are coming up.

Christian Education:  Sunday School program is going well. The kids are there.

Outreach:  Warren presented a partnership with Holy Spirit Parish and UCC in the resettlement of a refugee family in San Jose. Warren proposed that the vestry approves exploring a relationship with Holy Spirit and our own church members to support a refugee resettlement program. Discussion was held.  A letter was received from Africa. There is a need for 6K to complete this project. Francis Steitz is collecting for this effort.

Thirty- four families have pledged. Two are new. We are about 100 pledge families every year. Another letter may go out after next Sunday’s services.

Santa Maria is having a fund raiser to retire the mortgage. Goal is to raise $300K with $50K to come from the Diocese.

The vestry retreat will be held February 4th and 5th at the Methodist Church in Willow Glen. Dinner will be held on the evening of the 4th.

A nominating committee will need to be formed to acquire four members. Belinda has volunteered for next year. This needs to be in place by mid December. The annual meeting will be held either the 9th or 16th of January. Announcements will be made next Sunday.

The Fair Share for 2000 will go down to 39,247. A move was made and seconded to pay this Fair share to the Diocese. Vestry so approved.

A straw ECA 2000 Budget was presented.

December meeting will include dinner at 6:30. Bring your spouses. This is not a potluck!

A motion was made to spend $1300 from the memorial monies to pay for the hymnals Margaret requested.  The motion was approved by the vestry.

Respectfully submitted,

Joan R. Wagner
