Vestry Meeting Highlights


Attendees: Ann Avoux, Belinda Byerly-Robins, Beverley Deveaux, Natalie Mena, Russ Petruzzelli, Dave Thomas, Joan Wagner, Len Whitlock, Warren Willard, Roberta Verderico.

Absent: Vickie Jones, Ginger Redman and Roberta Verderico..

Minutes Approval Belinda moved to approve the minutes as read. Russ Petruzzelli seconded this motion and the vestry so approved the minutes.

Junior Warden's Report / Joint Venture Churches Report Joint Venture Churches Report: The Church building has termites and it will require tenting.

The janitorial service has started and is doing a good job. Dick Okamura is now the acting President of the Joint Venture Board.

The Joint Venture Building Committee reported that the building project is on hold. Financing has been investigated and is available. A discussion is still going on.

The operating and bond payment budgets for 2002 will be generated in October. The ECA vestry is requested to approve the Joint Venture budgets in December.

Junior Warden's Report: Vickie Jones was absent.

F.I.S.H. Reports Finance 1. Approval of Financial Report: The ECA vestry reviewed and approved the treasurer report. 2. The Shadinger Fund continues to decrease some due to the downturn in the market. The vestry accepted the report. 3. Len Whitlock moved to take out a first mortgage to pay off the existing first mortgage and use the remaining monies to make the necessary repairs to the rectory. Beverley Deveaux seconded this motion. Discussion: The cash flow will remain the same as with the existing loan. The vestry so approved the motion. Len will go forward to pursue this loan. Jerry Ferguson to be contacted by Nolan re past mortgage process.

Illumined: Ken Wratten has planned Saturday Services to begin on the fourth Saturday in October. (Oct. 27, 2001) Ken will also be attending vestry meetings starting with the October meeting.

Shine: The Shine committee reported that a chairperson, Kelli Casales, has volunteered for the Mother-Daughter Tea. The committee is looking for chairpersons for the remaining two planned social events. Nolan volunteered to assist the committee. A card was designed and will be mailed to all inactive church members. The telephone directory is ready to be proof read.

House: Len Whitlock, Pete Mayo and Earl Griffith are replacing the rectory siding and repairing the house joists. The termite work has been completed.

Two patio estimates have been received and Decorative Paving chosen for the job. Pavers will be used.

The painter's estimate of $1650 has been received. The patio needs to be completed before the rectory can be painted.

Senior Warden's Remarks. 1. The search committee and vestry members pictures will be posted on the bulletin board. 2. Beverley moved that a standing committee of 3-4 people be in charge of rectory maintenance. This motion was tabled until the October meeting. Beverley was requested to bring in a proposal with committee responsibilities and length of term and present the proposal at the October meeting. 3. Jackie Whitlock has volunteered to be a member of this committee. 4. ECA needs an Activity Coordinator. It was suggested that Ann be asked for assistance as who to nominate and what the coordinator is required to do. Rector's Remarks: Nolan announced that his last day at ECA will be July 7th, 2002. The transition era is approaching. Nolan moved that the vestry endorse Kim Axtell as qualified to become a postulate for holy orders. Warren seconded the motion and the vestry so approved. The endorsement document was circulated for vestry signatures. Ken will be working with ECA again this year. The transition era is approaching. A Vestry training day will be held in Salinas on October 6th. ECA will need 4 vestry members to attend.

New Business:

1. Bonnie Ashurst has resigned from the Vestry. Patty Fryer has volunteered to fulfill Bonnie's term. Russ moved to accept the nomination and Warren seconded it. The vestry so approved this nomination. 2. Russ presented a motion that the vestry support a proposal to "have the music one Sunday a month come entirely from the Renew Hymnal". Warren seconded this motion and the vestry so approved with one member abstaining from the vote. This proposal will be presented to the Worship Committee next Sunday.
